Several Affected as Turbulence Impacts Delta Flight Landing at Sydney

Multiple passengers and crew sustained injuries after a Delta jet originating in Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia was hit by significant turbulence on Friday morning.

Delta Flight 41 "encountered brief turbulence" as it touched down at Sydney Airport, an airline spokesperson stated. A number of the onboard staff required medical attention.

The New South Wales Ambulance Service stated they treated five patients, and took three of them to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that comprised spinal discomfort and migraines. The patients' ages were between their 30s up to the 70s.

It is the most recent case of commercial jets being hit by atmospheric disturbance, with aviation specialists indicating that climate change is a significant contributor.

On board were 245 people and 15 crew members on the wide-body jet, the Delta spokesperson added, adding that the plane arrived "safely and normally" at Sydney Airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on the day in question.
